I used pictures from my own diving trip for my website. I took the photos in Avalon last summer.  My audience is Scuba diving enthusiasts as well as those that are looking to research it more.  It is also for those who would like to try it out and take a class.  I received critique on my project from my co-workers and I changed the colors of the main title as well as moved some of the pictures around.

Movie Poster

For my project I used my own photos that I took myself.  The main image is a photo of me and my friend underwater scuba-diving.  The second photo I used was of the large fish in between the divers in which I used Adobe Photoshop to trace him out of his original picture and add him to the background photo.  The photo of the sea lion with my head on it is a combination of two photos that I took.  I used Photoshop to layer my head over the sea lion after tracing it out. At first I could not even use Photoshop and any of it’s function after some time I was able to actually begin using it’s features which was promising.

Critique: I did not post on time to the facebook group but received critique from my friends. I adjusted some of the layers of the pictures to make them look more clean.

I chose Disney as my company for this project.  I focused on Disneyland but also feel that it encompasses the entire Disney company.  My images are to make awareness, inspire, and get people thinking about Disneyland, memories, and get them wanting to come back.  Two of the images I chose are from the park and one is a world known silhouette of a Mickey Mouse head.

Critique from my co- workers who stated I should adjust the text in areas.

There are over 7 billion people in the world today. Let’s face it, in order to be successful in this world it takes hard work, persistence, and a busy schedule. How can people, including myself,  get to be so rushed, angry, emotional, to the point where we begin to see others as objects and no longer people. We become so busy in our lives that we forget what matters.

Throughout my experiences in life this far, one thing that I have come to cherish most is a sense of peace.  Being baptized at the age of twenty four provided me with a special taste of the Gospel.  Stresses of life, family, professional goals, and education proved to be very real.  The Gospel ignited a tiny spark within my heart and grew to become a fire I now strive to remain lit.

Through my attempts to find solitude, one place that has never failed to bring peace unto my soul has been the great outdoors.  When I look to the skyline of a mountain range, or the vast oceans, even the skyline of a man made city, I see the Lords hand. It is there where I find myself coming back down to reality, realizing what is important, and my burdens seem to diminish.

Being outdoors has not only proven to bring me closer to my creator but closer to those around me.  Experiences held with family in friends while being out and about in nature have proven to be some of my fondest memories that I will cherish forever.  When I am experiencing the outdoors of this beautiful world the Lord has created, I understand the big picture.  It’s more than our bills, more than what we have, more than what we have accomplished, and more than we can barely imagine.

The outdoors has proven to be an amazing stress reliever.  Activities such as hiking, Scuba diving, snowboarding, bicycle riding, and sightseeing have increased my outlook on this world and on life.

Our natural world is a reflection of how great our Heavenly Father loves us.  It is His design that has been put here for our enjoyment and use.  Let us all find peace and comfort, motivation and inspiration, in the world around us.  Get outdoors and experience the world how the Lord created it.

Have fun, find peace, and strive to keep the fire of your testimony lit.

Scriptures I may use:

Isaiah 55:12 – For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap [their] hands.

Genesis 1:1 – In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Psalms 33:5 – He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.

Psalm 23:2-3 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Luke 5:16 And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.

6A Slide Design

My message is based upon the talk “Are We Not All Beggars?” by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland. For my critique I asked my partners at work and some roommates what they thought about my project and what I could change. I ended up changing around some of the font and placement of images and shapes.  My audience is anyone who is willing to read my slide project with an open heart and who is open to being motivated to be more giving and charitable toward others. I hope the slide project may motivate others, remind them, or just move them towards becoming more Christ like in their everyday lives.

Event Flier

I created a pool party flier for a neighborhood party. My audience is those that live within the neighborhood and I am spreading the message to them that there will be this pool event occurring. I used blue with white to contrast with the overall complementary color scheme of the main picture.

I received feedback from Lucy Anglero and Jessica Carpenter on Facebook as well as critique from the instructor.

Fonts: Sans serif- Gil sans, Berlin Sans FB

Students I critiqued: Paula Snow, Brayden Unsicker.

Tasteful Typography

Process: I chose a picture from a place that I really enjoy for this project.  The picture was taken from a Facebook post by Heavenly Mountain Resort. I opened the image in Microsoft Word. Re-sized it to fit the entire screen and added my main text and a text box for the body.  I inserted a line below “Lake Tahoe” and added three star designs to it.  I felt the white text contrasted well with the blue backgrounds. Once finished I resized the image using picresize.com and converted it to a .jpeg file using pdf2jpg.net.

Critique Report: I received good critiques in the Facebook group. I considered aligning my title with the body paragraph but felt it looked good offset.

Gestalt Activity

I created my Gestalt project using expended shotgun shells.  They repeat to form the shape of a peace sign. As I thought of ideas and items I could use I felt that I wanted to do something that had a deeper meaning to it.  I think this piece can represent the irony of achieving peace through violence and sacrifices of others. It could also be interpreted as invalid as the piece sign is made through a tool that can be used to facilitate destruction.

Capstone Journal Entry

Beginning the entrepreneurial journey is a combination of skill, knowledge, risk-taking, and faith.  I would caution new entrepreneurs to have a business plan and do their homework before risking their hard earned money on a new business adventure.  I would recommend to study up on entrepreneurship and business and read a few books such as “The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do about It” and also the book “From Good to Great”.  The principle to have something that is unique to the market and desired by the consumer is important.  Solving peoples “pain points” in life is a good way to look for entrepreneurial ideas that have a strong chance of being successful.

Having a target market defined and a good marketing plan will help bring business to your ideas. Hiring the right people for the right positions will help your company move forward and above competitors. It’s important to slowly work on your business and build up momentum more and more towards success and greatness.

My experience in my 100 dollar challenge was enlightening. I realized of the time it takes to run a business however small it may be. I also realized that opportunity is all around us and that we can be successfully when we do the proper research and take the proper steps.  However small turning 20 dollars into 124 dollars is, it still counts as a success on a small level.

Don’t be afraid to fail and don’t be afraid to take risks. Many of the greatest businessman and successfully people in the world have failed multiple times and continue to do so, yet they are still extremely successfully and continue moving forward.  Entrepreneurship can set us free and allow us to achieve our dreams.
